Episcopal liturgy is sacramental. Therefore, the centrality of our worship is the Holy Eucharist, which literally means, "thanksgiving." Our worship incorporates the mind, the body, the soul and the senses. We kneel, We stand. We bow. We genuflect. We cross ourselves. We sing. We pray. We laugh.

At the Last Supper, Jesus shared the bread and the cup of wine at a sacred meal with his disciples. He identified the bread with his body and the wine with his blood of the new covenant. Jesus commanded his disciples to "do this" in remembrance of him (see 1 Cor 11:23-26; MK 14:22-25; Mt 26:26-29; Lk 22:14-20).

Christ's sacrifice is made present by the Eucharist, and in it we are united to his one self-offering (BCP,p.859). The Eucharist provides the basis for the fourfold action of taking, blessing, breaking and sharing.

In fact, the literal definition of the term, liturgy, is "the work of the people." As such, there are many opportunities in which to participate. They are as follows:

Crucifer - This person carries the cross during the processional, the Gospel procession, and the recessional.
Torchbearers -These individuals carry the lighted torches. They are positioned behind or alongside the crucifer.
Chalice Bearer -This person helps to administer the chalice during the Eucharist.
Ushers -These individuals greet members and visitors at the door before service. They also hand out bulletins and collect alms during the offertory.

Altar Guild -These individuals prepare the altar and the church for Sunday worship, as well as other services throughout the year.
